“Jesus and John Wayne:  How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation”

Kristin Kobes Du Mez takes us into the culture of American evangelicals, whose books, films, music, clothing and merchandise have been influencing the beliefs of millions for decades. Evangelical pop-culture has been sidelining the meek and mild Jesus of the Gospels to center images of rugged masculinity – strong men who assert white masculine power in defense of “Christian America.”  The values at the heart of today’s evangelical movement include white patriarchy, authoritarian rule, aggressive foreign policy, fear of Islam, ambivalence towards #MeToo, and opposition to Black Lives Matter and the LGBTQ community.  How did they become so entrenched?  So influential?  So powerful?  And what can we do about it?

Worship is at 10 am Sunday mornings. If you prefer — or if you are feeling sick — please log on to Zoom from the comfort and safety of your own home to be a part of our worship experience.

We are a certified Welcoming Congregation and Green Sanctuary.
