Fierce Compassion

Led by Rev. F. Vern Wright V

Sometimes we get angry about things; we get angry at ourselves about a perceived flaw, or we get angry about systemic prejudice and the willful ignorance of our neighbors. Anger is a powerful human emotion. But anger also indicates a powerful, passionate value looking for recognition.

The anger turned inward can reveal a deep longing for greater wholeness. Anger turned outward can reveal a great yearning for more equity and justice. In other words, there is an element of anger that is love.

When we begin to recognize the fierce compassion at the heart of our anger, we can embrace it as an engine of transformation for ourselves and the world, rather than merely a destructive inferno. Join us as we draw from the writings of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Kristen Neff, and others and explore the theme of fierce compassion.

Service begins at 10 a.m. This is a hybrid service. Join us in the sanctuary or log on to Zoom from the comfort and safety of your own home to be a part of our worship experience.

We are a certified Welcoming Congregation and Green Sanctuary
