Love Embodied

Led by Rev. F. Vern Wright V

Christmas is about the idea of the incarnation. In Christian language, it is the concept of God becoming embodied in the birth of Jesus (and yes, Mary’s body too). Ultimately Rome would execute Jesus for his arrogance.

The Universalist’s point was to understand, how through Christ, we are all the incarnation of God whether we believe in Jesus, accept the divine or not, and we all have the innate capacity to become the embodiment of love.

Incarnation has much theological weight and perhaps not all of us would deem necessary, or even worthwhile to understand in the contemporary landscape of Unitarian Universalism today. However, the concept of embodying an ideal, especially the ideal of love, is something I think we may all embrace. In the growing body of knowledge related to gendered and racialized identities, as well as trauma research, the idea of embodiment in terms of grief, loss, forgiveness, hope, choice, and justice has a whole new parlance we may wish to explore. Embodying love is as bold of an idea as it ever was, and people are still facing great violence trying to do it today. We would all benefit from becoming more embodied in love I think. It may, indeed, restore our humanity.

Service begins at 10 a.m. This is a hybrid service. Please log on to Zoom from the comfort and safety of your own home to be a part of our worship experience as well.

We are a certified Welcoming Congregation and Green Sanctuary
