For the Dignity of the Human Being

Led by Rev. F. Vernon Wright V

As you all know, Christmas was originally supposed to be a celebration of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. The empires of respective eras made this about many things. For hundreds of years now in the West, Christmas has been a national holiday of some pomp. But how would I convey the significance of the holiday to a person who perhaps did not believe in God, didn’t know about Jesus, and was not really a part of Western culture? I think I would simply say, “Christmas is many things now, but it should be a holiday that celebrates the dignity of the human being.”

I have many complicated, informed reasons for saying this. At the heart of the matter, when one looks closely at what Jesus said about himself, it was basically this: I am the (perhaps truth of the) human being. His teachings are mostly about how to restore dignity one relationship at a time.

Service begins at 10 a.m. This is a hybrid service. Join us in the sanctuary or log on to Zoom from the comfort and safety of your own home to be a part of our worship experience. Service ends at 11 a.m. followed by coffee and fellowship.
