Claiming Our Space
Read or Watch the SermonThis Sunday at Murray Church, we’ll be exploring the idea of “Claiming Our Space.” It’s a theme that resonates deeply in today’s world, where so many voices compete for our attention and it’s easy to feel lost in the crowd.
But what does it mean to “claim our space”? It’s about recognizing our inherent worth and dignity and refusing to be marginalized or silenced. It’s about embracing our unique identities and speaking our truths with courage and conviction.
This Sunday, we’ll draw inspiration from our Unitarian Universalist history, looking back at those who bravely claimed their space in the face of adversity. We’ll explore how the constitutional separation of church and state has helped to create a society where we are free to practice our faith without fear of persecution. And we’ll reflect on the long tradition of sanctuary, where communities have offered shelter and protection to those seeking refuge.
These traditions remind us that claiming our space is not just an individual act, but a collective responsibility. It’s about creating a world where everyone feels safe, welcome, and empowered to live authentically.
This week, I invite you to reflect on these questions:
- Where in your life do you feel a sense of belonging?
- Where do you long to claim your space more fully?
- How can we, as a community, support one another in this journey?
Join us for a service filled with contemporary music and thoughtful reflection. Together, let’s explore what it means to claim our space and create a world where everyone belongs.
With thoughtful reflection,
Reverend Vern Wright
