Living the Questions: Embracing the Unknown with Love

Life is a journey, isn’t it? A quest for understanding, a pursuit of meaning amidst the mysteries that surround us. We often find ourselves seeking answers to life’s big questions: How can I best support my family? How can I maintain good health? How can I express love to my loved ones? How can I contribute to my community? These are vital questions, and the answers we find provide us with direction and purpose.

But what about the questions that linger? The ones that resist easy answers, the ones that nudge us beyond the comfortable and familiar? These are the questions that can truly transform us, deepening our understanding of ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us.

As Unitarian Universalists, we are called to embrace transformation in love. This means leaning into the questions that challenge us, the questions that lead us to a deeper understanding of love, faith, and the divine. “Living the Questions” is an act of transformation in itself; it is a way of deepening our love for ourselves, for others, and for the world around us. By embracing the unknown, we open ourselves to new possibilities, new perspectives, and new ways of being.

Thinking about ‘Living the Questions’ naturally leads us to reflect on our UU value of Transformation in Love. This theme invites us to explore the transformative power of love, which is central to our UU values:

  • Openness to Change and Growth: “Living the Questions” encourages a willingness to embrace uncertainty and grapple with complex issues, fostering a mindset of continuous learning and evolution, recognizing that love is not static but rather an ongoing process of growth and change.
  • Deepening Understanding and Connection: By exploring challenging questions, we can move beyond superficial answers and connect with our deepest values and beliefs. This process of inquiry can lead to a deeper understanding of ourselves, others, and the world around us, fostering a more compassionate and loving approach to life.
  • Embracing the Unknown: “Living the Questions” requires a willingness to sit with discomfort and uncertainty, trusting that the journey of exploration will lead to greater wisdom and insight. The power of love often requires us to step outside our comfort zones and embrace new ways of being and relating.

In essence, “Living the Questions” embodies the transformative nature of love by encouraging openness, deepening understanding, and embracing the unknown as opportunities for growth and connection. It’s about leaning into the mystery, trusting the process, and allowing ourselves to be shaped by the questions that life presents.

This week, I invite you to reflect on these questions:

  • What are some of the questions that have guided your life’s journey?
  • How have your questions shaped your understanding of yourself and the world?
  • How can embracing the unknown lead to personal and spiritual growth?

Join us this Sunday as we delve into the power of “Living the Questions.”

With thoughtful reflection,
