Together We Rise: A Call to Generosity and Action

This Sunday, we invite you to join us as we explore the powerful theme, “Together We Rise.” Connect with our community as we explore how we can answer the call of justice in these challenging times.

At Murray UU Church, we feel it’s important to live our values on Sundays and every day in between, and working together can help us achieve our goals. This Stewardship Sunday, the Finance Committee invites you, together, to rise up for our values in supporting the mission and vision we share.  This Sunday’s sermon will focus on the spirit of our community and our role in these complex times.

Our Community as a Foundation

In these times, it’s easy to feel that our values are under siege. On the national stage, we see challenges to the very principles that form the bedrock of our beliefs—compassion, inclusion, and respect for the inherent worthiness of every individual. Yet, within the walls of our Murray UU Church, we find a safe space, a haven where those values are not only protected but celebrated. This community is our foundation, a source of strength and resilience when the world outside feels turbulent.

Empowerment through Unity

“Together We Rise” sings about the importance of unity and collaboration. The word “Together” reminds us that when we link arms, our voices become a chorus, amplifying our message and increasing our capacity for impact. Like a tapestry woven from diverse threads, we find strength in our shared experiences, a core tenet of our Unitarian Universalist values.

Active Advocacy

“We Rise” is a call to action, an invitation to step forward with courage and purpose. Our community is not just a sanctuary; it’s a launchpad for positive change, a place where we equip ourselves to answer the call of justice. From this foundation, we are empowered to speak our truth, to advocate for the marginalized, and to effect meaningful change in the world around us. Whether it’s working for environmental justice, advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, or supporting refugees, we strive to be a beacon of hope and a force for good, living our UU commitment to building a more just and compassionate world.

Generosity as an Expression of Love

But how do we rise to this challenge, how do we fan the flames of change? The answer lies in love, and love made tangible through generosity. As we’ll explore in the sermon, great love requires great generosity. Generosity, in all its forms—whether it’s giving of our time to mentor a young person, sharing our resources to support community initiatives, or offering our support to those in need—is a holistic expression of our love for one another, for our community, and for the vision of a more just and compassionate world. It is a tangible way to put our UU values into action, to extend a hand to those who need it most, and to heal the brokenness in our world.

We invite you to join us this Sunday as we reflect on the power of unity, the transformative nature of generosity, and the myriad ways in which, together, we can rise to meet the challenges of our time and build the world our hearts long for.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Reflective Questions

  • How does our community empower you to act in the wider world?
  • What does generosity mean to you, and how can it foster change?
  • In what ways can we collectively rise to meet the challenges of our time?
