“What the History Books Get Wrong About Christopher Columbus”

In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue.  Most of us grew up learning a uniquely European-centric story about a man from Italy “discovering” a “new” world.  In his landmark book, “Lies My Teacher Told Me About Christopher Columbus,” historian James Loewen tears apart the mythology most of us have been taught about Christopher Columbus and his four journeys to America.  Monday is Columbus Day, which many have now begun to refer to instead as Indigenous People’s Day.  Let’s explore some deeper truths and try to reconstruct a more complete story about what exactly happened in 1492.
