The Most Banned Book in America Today: Gender Queer

According to a recent New York Times article, the book Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe is the most banned book in America today, thanks to our political culture wars. The graphic novel (think comic book) is an honest heartfelt memoir by a young person born with female anatomy who doesn’t identify as either female or male. Many in the LGBTQIA community have called the book lifesaving. To paraphrase one review: “Seeing myself represented in the world, helps me know I’m not broken. I’m not wrong. I’m not alone.” As LGBTQIA rights come under increasing attack, our faith, this church, is a sanctuary, a safe space of love and support for all who identify as gay, bisexual, transgender, gender non-binary, and queer questioning. McKayla Hoffman, a local UU seminary student who identifies as gender queer, will co-lead worship and share their story.

Worship is at 10 am Sunday mornings. If you prefer — or if you are feeling sick — please log on to Zoom from the comfort and safety of your own home to be a part of our worship experience.
